Pakistan’s team run in the ongoing Asia Cup in United Arab Emirates comes to an end with their defeat against Bangladesh by 37 runs in the virtual semifinal at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
After winning the toss the Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza decided to bat first however, they were set back initially by Pakistan bowlers who took three early wickets by some fine bowling from the likes of experienced Junaid Khan and young Shaheen Shah Afridi.
But Bangladesh made a comeback in the match as Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim put on 144 runs for the fourth wicket to get Bangladesh team out of trouble. Their partnership was broken by right-arm fast bowler Hasan Ali. After that Bangladesh team couldn’t quite recover with the bat although brilliant batting from Mushfiqur Rahim does provide Bangladesh a good competitive score before they were eventually bowled out by Pakistan bowlers for 239 runs in 48.5 overs.
For Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Junaid Khan who comes into the playing 11 in the place of out of form Mohammed Amir took a brilliant four-wicket haul.
When Pakistan came out to bat they lose their dashing left-handed opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, Consistent Babar Azam, and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in quick succession. After that experienced Shoaib Malik and young Imam-ul-Haq tried to build a partnership they do manage to put up a 67-run stand which was eventually broken due to a superman catch from Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza inside the circle with Shoaib Malik dismissal Pakistan hope of making the final were diminished. After that Imam-ul-Haq build a partnership with Asif Ali but when Asif Ali was stumped by Litton Das it was evident that Pakistan will be going to lose this match and with Imam-ul-Haq dismissal the speed of Pakistan going down also increased.
Before this Asia Cup started Pakistan were termed favorites to win the Asia Cup by many but such poor were there performances that they could not even make the final of the Asia Cup.
